Ireland is experiencing a whiskey renaissance with several new distilleries producing a range of styles from single malts and blends to traditional single pot still.
The flagship of Clonakilty's range is a blended Irish whiskey matured in ex-Bourbon casks, virgin American oak, and shaved, toasted and recharred ex-red wine European oak casks. The result is a creamy, layered whiskey that in 2020 was recognised as the World's Best Blended Irish Whiskey. Spirit only started to flow through Clonakilty distillery's copper stills in early 2019, so this expression is blend of sourced Irish whiskeys.
The nose is sweet and warm with aromas of orchard fruits, sherbet lemons and fragrant apple blossom. On the palate things become creamy and indulgent, with freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies, toffee, baked apples with cinnamon and raisins, and a warming gingery spice.
