Glenmorangie means 'A valley of tranquility', a fitting name for a distillery which sits on the banks of the Dornoch Firth. Glenmorangie is one of the most successful single malt whisky brands in the world, in large part thanks to its famous "Giraffe Necked" stills whose very long necks allow only the lightest and most delicate vapours to pass through to the spirit still. This creates the delicate, gentle whisky which has made Glenmorangie world famous.
Head distiller Dr. Bill Lumsden enjoys experimenting with different malts and casks to create unique flavours, including the famous mocho-inspired Glenmorangie Signet.
In 2021 Glenmorangie opened an all-new distillery on the same site called 'The Lighthouse', a 20-metre-high glass still house designed specifically for innovation and experiment rather than yield. The Lighthouse contains two custom-made stills which have built-in features that allow them to behave in a different manner, as set by Lumsden. A brew house has also been built in keeping with the main distillery to allow further experimentation with the mashing and brewing process.
