Octomore 15.3, Islay Barley, Islay Single Malt Whisky, 61.3%

6 items left

Octomore 15.3 stands as a bold testament to Islay’s rugged spirit, crafted from 100% Islay-grown barley and peated to an astounding 307.2 PPM. This is one of the most heavily peated whiskies ever created, yet despite its immense smoke levels, it reveals a remarkable balance of flavour and complexity. Distilled from barley grown just two miles from the Bruichladdich distillery at Octomore Farm, this whisky is a tribute to its terroir, showcasing the unmistakable influence of Islay’s soil, sea air, and traditions.

With its super-heavy peat levels, 15.3 offers a distinctive contrast to the rest of the Octomore 15 series, combining immense power with a sense of place and tradition that only Islay can provide. It's a whisky for those who seek boldness and character, an unforgettable dram that pushes the boundaries of peat while remaining rooted in its origins.

Matured for five years in Bourbon casks and Oloroso Sherry hogsheads.

Tasting Note:Octomore 15.3 balances intense peat smoke with rich, fruity flavours. On the nose, notes of smoked toffee and sweet barley sugar come through, mixed with fresh citrus and hints of the sea. Cloves, toasted nuts, and a touch of coconut add depth, while butterscotch and warm bread reflect the barley’s sweetness. The palate is both strong and smooth, with a velvety texture that contrasts its 61.3% ABV. Butterscotch and creamy vanilla blend with dried fruits, orange zest, and toasted oak. The Islay barley gives it a malty richness, while dry smoke wraps around the flavours, grounding the whisky in its peaty roots. The finish is long and inviting, with notes of burnt sugar, coconut, and a hint of sea spray, leaving a lasting impression. Octomore 15.3 captures the spirit of Islay, showcasing both power and balance.

About the distillery

The Bruichladdich distillery on Islay is at the forefront of environmental action in Scotland's whisky industry. A recent project launched in 2021 aims to use sustainable energy to heat the distillery, creating only water as a waste product, eliminating all CO2 emissions.

Alongside their environmental credentials, Bruichladdich also proudly practices a very traditional approach to distilling that is fairly radical today. All their Single Malt Whiskies are based on Scottish Barley, with around half of that coming from Islay itself, and 5% organically grown.

Three whiskies in different styles are produced at Bruichladdich: The unpeated Bruichladdich bottles, the heavily peated Port Charlotte, and the ultra-heavily peated Octomore.

All Bruichladdich's whisky focus on terroir, quality, and careful cask maturation, with a degree of detail seen in few distilleries anywhere else in the world.
