Named after an inlet on Islay’s rugged Atlantic coast, Sanaig is a vatting of both sherry and bourbon casks. The high proportion of Oloroso sherry influence adding a balance of dried fruits and spices to classic Kilchoman citrus sweetness and peat smoke character.
As with all Kilchoman whiskies, it's made from barley grown on the Islay farm, malted, distilled, matured and bottled all on site for an authentic taste of Islay.
Tasting Note: Charcoal smoke, bitter cocoa, malt loaf, pine needles, sweet raisins, brown toast, and treacle sweetness. A rich, smoky, peaty palate, with a woody, peppery finish.
Category: Islay Kilchoman Peated Scotland Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky
Founded in 2005, Kilchoman was the first new distillery to be built on Islay in over 124 years. Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder, set out to resurrect the grass roots tradition of farm distilling. Their 100% Islay range represents the revival of those traditions, standing alone as Islay’s only Single Farm Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
200 Tonnes of barley per year are grown on the Kilchoman farm, planted in Spring when Islay's migrating geese can do the least damage. Following harvest, Kilchoman is one of the few distilleries in Scotland still using their very own floor maltings. This gives them greater quality control, and also means only Islay peat is used to smoke the barley. Fermentation takes 85 hours following mashing, after which the sweet, earthy wort is distilled in twice in Kilchomans unique copper pot stills, before maturation entirely in oak casks on the farm. This gives a true taste of Islay, from barley to bottle.
Kilchoman single malts are a distillation of people, passion and place.
