About the distillery

On the banks of the river Teith around ten miles north of Stirling, Deanston Distillery is notably different to the pagoda-topped Highland distilleries you may picture in your minds eye when you think whisky making. Until 1965, Deanston was a cotton mill that employed 1,500 local people. The power of the community and the soft waters of the river Teith were harnessed by entrepreneur Brodie Hepburn to create a fabulous new distillery, a phoenix from the ashes of the cotton industry.

To this day, the distillery is powered by turbines from the river, whose soft waters are also mixed with locally farmed Scottish barley to produce the gentle, unpeated Deanston Single Malts. Matured predominantly in Bourbon casks, the classic Deanston range is unpeated, smooth and sweet with honey and heather notes. Meanwhile, limitied editions play around with interesting different casks, hand picked by 2022 Master Blender winner, Julieann Fernandez who heads up the team at Deanston.
