Inspired by Islay’s beautiful sandy shoreline, Machir Bay is Kilchoman’s flagship peated single malt, crafted for both newcomers and peat aficionados alike.
The harmonious vatting of bourbon and sherry casks yields a whisky that balances coastal smoke with a bright palate of tropical fruits and honeyed malt.
Production:Locally grown barley is floor?malted, fermented in wooden washbacks for 90 hours, then distilled in copper stills. The new make spirit is matured in a blend of first?fill bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry butts.
Pairing Suggestions:Perfect with spiced pork belly tacos, it also complements creamy chèvre.
Tasting Note:On the nose, floral intensity meets lemon zest and sea spray, while the palate bursts with juicy peaches, dried sultanas and honey, finishing with peppery smoke and a hint of sea salt.
Origin:Islay, Scotland
Alcohol:46.0%
Meta Description: Kilchoman Machir Bay is a balanced Islay single malt at 46%, combining lemon?zest peat, floral complexity and honeyed malt matured in bourbon and sherry casks.Kilchoman is more than a distillery, it’s the Wills family’s labour of love, and their passion resonates in every drop. Established in 2005 by Anthony and Kathy Wills, Kilchoman revitalised the traditional farm distilling ethos on Islay, an island famed for its smoky single malts. Today, their sons James, George, and Peter carry forward the family’s commitment to excellence, overseeing sales and marketing while Anthony acts as Master Distiller and Kathy runs the welcoming Visitor Centre.
Central to Kilchoman’s identity is their “100% Islay” philosophy, a hallmark of integrity and craftsmanship. The distillery controls every step of the process, from barley sown in their fertile Islay fields to the final bottling. This commitment to local production ensures their single malts are deeply rooted in Islay’s landscape and traditions, offering whisky lovers an unparalleled experience of authenticity and quality.
