Tasting Note: Crackled black pepper, pine needles, billowing smoke and billtong on the fragrant snout. A burst of fruit flavours on the palate with a chilli heat, tar smoke, and a long salty finish. A real beastie!
The Ardbeg Distillery has had a turbulent history, seesawing between openings and closures since it was established on the infamously peaty Isle of Islay in 1815. Things have been on the up since it's acquisition by Glenmorangie in 1997, however, and the current core range consists of 5 incredible whiskies aged in different combinations of casks, plus the occasional 25-Year-Old and various limited editions brought out each year.
In 2019, to keep up with demand, a completely new still house was built containing an additional two stills, upping production to around 1.7 million litres per year!
