Founded in 1779 by David Simpson, Bowmore is the oldest distillery on Islay. It is also one of only three on the island that still has and uses it's own floor maltings, with around thirty percent of barley malted in house, using both peat and air to create a final malt smoked to around 25-30 PPM.
Bowmore is also home to the legendary No.1 Vaults which has been used for the maturation of single malt whisky for over 240 years. Sitting on the edge of Loch Indaal, the magical character of Islay and centuries of tradition patiently combine to create a whisky that stands out for its complex balance of mild Islay smokiness, maritime minerality, with an abundance of fresh stone fruit notes.
