Bruichladdich 8 Year Old Islay Barley 2014 Single Malt Whisky, 50.0%

5 items left

Dive into the heart of Islay with Bruichladdich’s 8 Year Old Islay Barley, a single malt whisky that redefines the very essence of terroir. Crafted with 100% Islay-grown barley, this unpeated beauty celebrates the island’s natural bounty, unshackled from the smoky influences that often define its peers.

Aged gracefully for eight years, this whisky is a testament to Bruichladdich’s innovative spirit. The result? A vibrant and captivating dram that embodies both tradition and forward-thinking craftsmanship. Each sip reveals a symphony of delicate floral notes intertwined with sweet malt and ripe grain, followed by a wave of stoned fruits and creamy vanilla. The oak imparts hints of coconut, butterscotch, and brown sugar, alongside subtle whispers of nutmeg and hazelnut, offering a depth of flavour that is both rich and balanced.

Bottled at 50.0% ABV, this single malt is unchill-filtered and free from added colour, ensuring that every drop is as authentic as the land from which it springs.

Tasting Note:On the palate, creamy vanilla and zesty lemon make a bold entrance, soon joined by a peppery spice that gently unfolds into warm porridge and popcorn. The whisky’s texture is luxuriously creamy, with layers of sweet citrus, tropical fruit, and fragrant peach, all beautifully enhanced by the combination of American and French oak casks. A drop of water unveils an intriguing marine note, adding a touch of the sea to the experience. As the final notes linger, sweet stoned fruits mingle with creamy vanilla custard and a hint of coconut, while a delicate floral essence remains, evoking a true sense of Islay’s unique character.

About the distillery

The Bruichladdich distillery on Islay is at the forefront of environmental action in Scotland's whisky industry. A recent project launched in 2021 aims to use sustainable energy to heat the distillery, creating only water as a waste product, eliminating all CO2 emissions.

Alongside their environmental credentials, Bruichladdich also proudly practices a very traditional approach to distilling that is fairly radical today. All their Single Malt Whiskies are based on Scottish Barley, with around half of that coming from Islay itself, and 5% organically grown.

Three whiskies in different styles are produced at Bruichladdich: The unpeated Bruichladdich bottles, the heavily peated Port Charlotte, and the ultra-heavily peated Octomore.

All Bruichladdich's whisky focus on terroir, quality, and careful cask maturation, with a degree of detail seen in few distilleries anywhere else in the world.
