A special bottle from Bunnahabhain distillery for the 2025 Feis Ile.

The distillery's aim with this bottle is to pay homage to their "rich heritage, echoing the lyrics that graced our very first bottling of 12YO that ventured out into the world in the late 1980’s."

The spirit for Turas Math no.1 was all distilled in 2008 before filling into two cask types: the first was matured for the full 15 years in Manzanilla casks from Jerez, the second began in refill casks for 10 years, before moving to Amarone casks from the Veneto region in Italy, to finish for 5 years. 

 

Official Tasting Notes

Colour – Pecan Brown

Nose – A burst of dark fruits— black cherries, plums, and blackberries—intertwined by cloves and roasted nuts

Palate – Fresh cinnamon pastries and treacle toffee blend with hazelnut, dried figs, and soft herbal notes.

Finish – Warm spices linger on the palate, accented by a hint of sea spray.

About the distillery

The Bunnahabhain Distillery is situated on the north section of the Sound of Islay which separates Islay from Jura, overlooking the famous 'Paps of Jura'. A fairly remote and inaccessible distillery, Bunnahabhain was in 1881 and its gaelic name means 'Mouth of the River', a reference to the Margadale river whose clear waters are used to this day in distilling Bunnahabhain Single Malt Whisky.

Unlike most Islay whiskies, the majority of spirit made at Bunnahabhain is unpeated. The distillery has a long-established reputation for a sweet, oily, slightly nutty and elegant style of whisky thanks to their short necked stills and heavy use of sherry casks. Peated Bunnahabhains do exists nonetheless, adding a more classically Islay-styled medicinal, smoky character.
