This latest edition of GlenDronach Cask Strength has been matured in a combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez barrels, absolutely perfect for chilly winters evenings. With the already hearty characteristic of GlenDronach boosted up, expect bags of sweet, caramelised nuts, cranberry, clove, orange peel, treacle and chocolate raisin flavours, with a bold, woody spice and incredible length on the finish. A wee beauty.
Opened by James Allardics in 1826, the GlenDronach distillery has had a string of impressive owners in its rich history. A fire in 1937 closed the distillery for a time being whilst it was under the tenure of one Cptn. Charles Grant (of the Glenfiddich Grant family), but it wasn't until the distillery was mothballed in 1995 that it closed for any considerable period.
Thankfully, Glendronach re-opened in 2002, and with new investment from new owners Chivas Brothers, it has thrived ever since.
Dr. Rachel Barrie is the master behind the GlenDronach array of heavily sherried Speyside Whiskies. The elegant saxophone-shaped stills distill a rich, complex, and full-bodied spirit, married to richly flavoured Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez to produce the voluptuous, warming house style.
