Cask: Finished in refill Oloroso Sherry butt for 31 months
Perhaps not the best known distillery, Dailuaine is nonetheless much sought-after by whisky blenders and drinkers for it's full bodied, rich and flavourful Speyside style. This sherry-finished single cask is no exception, a special whisky which offers ripe orange, fruitcake, cedar spice and a nutty, toasty oak finish.
Dailuaine distillery (meaning 'green valley' in gaelic) was built in 1852 by one William Mackenzie, a farmer from the Speyside town of Carron.
The fascinating history of Dailuaine includes the first pagado on any distillery in Scotland, two fires and re-openings, and various mergers.
Throughout its lifespan, Dailuaine has been lauded for its rich, robust, malty Speyside style, providing the top notes of some of the world's most famous blends. It wasn't until 1991 and the Flora & Fauna range by Diageo (current owners) that you could buy Dailuane Single Malt, however.
Renovation in 2012 has seen production boosted 25%, but bottlings of Dailuane Single Malt are still few and far between, more's the pity.
