Nikka Whisky’s first distillery and guardian of their tradition, Yoichi is located on the coast of Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan.

Crafted using methods from the past, such as direct coal heating, the Yoichi single malt truly captures the authentic character of its exceptional location, with its refined coastal and peat notes.

The 10-Year-Old is available in very limited quantities each year, showcasing the very best this amazing distillery has to offer.

Tasting Note:  Luscious stone fruits, spiced ginger, plum, blossoms, dates, and applewood smoke come through on the nose. The palate is viscous, warming and vibrant with splashes of fruit salad, bonfire, and exotic spices fizzing around the mouth. There's an exceptionally long and full finish to the 10-Year-Old, demonstrating the more nuanced cocoa, dried spice, and ever-present fruitiness. What a brilliant drop of Japanese Single Malt.



 

About the distillery

Masataka Taketsuru, the first Japanese who mastered whisky making in Scotland, valued the climate and natural features of the north. Yoichi, the place chosen by Masataka was close to the sea, surrounded by mountains on three sides and in many ways similar to Highland in Scotland. A cold climate with an appropriate humidity, crisp clean air and fresh water - everything necessary for his ideal whisky was available. The proximity to the sea is one of the distinctive features of Yoichi. The sea breeze gives a briny hint to the whisky during the maturation.
