Octomore 16.3, Octomore Farm Barley, Islay Single Malt Whisky, 189.5PPM, 61.6%

3 items left

An Octomore of balance and restraint, this expression showcases the elegance and complexity possible when the spotlight shifts from cask influence to the spirit’s inherent character. It’s an Octomore for contemplation, a quiet giant that reveals its depths slowly, highlighting the interplay of homegrown barley, smoke, and the subtle floral essence of Islay.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Blooming heather and distant bonfire smoke. Soft notes of barley sugar and freshly baked bread are brightened with hints of lemon zest and green apple peel, underpinned by delicate florals. Peat smoke is present but restrained.

Palate: A symphony of honeyed malt, toasted grain and a distinctive earthiness greet the palate. Orchard fruits, citrus and a touch of vanilla sweetness follow, whilst delicate threads of smoke and salinity weave through the malt, providing a gentle counterpoint to heather and coconutty gorse.

About the distillery

The Bruichladdich distillery on Islay is at the forefront of environmental action in Scotland's whisky industry. A recent project launched in 2021 aims to use sustainable energy to heat the distillery, creating only water as a waste product, eliminating all CO2 emissions.

Alongside their environmental credentials, Bruichladdich also proudly practices a very traditional approach to distilling that is fairly radical today. All their Single Malt Whiskies are based on Scottish Barley, with around half of that coming from Islay itself, and 5% organically grown.

Three whiskies in different styles are produced at Bruichladdich: The unpeated Bruichladdich bottles, the heavily peated Port Charlotte, and the ultra-heavily peated Octomore.

All Bruichladdich's whisky focus on terroir, quality, and careful cask maturation, with a degree of detail seen in few distilleries anywhere else in the world.
