A delicious limited-edition whisky from Old Pulteney aged in specially-selected French oak Pineau des Charentes casks. The sweet hay-like flavours of the Pineau des Charentes cask pair beautifully with the fresh vanilla, apple, orange and salted toffee of Old Pulteney to create a wonderful dram of whisky.
Tasting note from the distillery:
Appearance - Bronze with a pink hue
Aroma - Fragrant and rich with honey sweetness and vanilla at the base. Intense fruitiness starts jammy and stewed and develops into candied oranges and sticky balsamic raisins. Hints of toasted spices and powder pepper complete this stunning profile.
Taste - A lingering finish showcases notes of caramelised hazelnuts and ground spices, broadening in sweetness, and then drying ever so slowly towards a savoury finale of coastal minerality.
One of the most northerly distilleries in Scotland, Old Pulteney has been produced in Caithness since 1826. Indeed, the distillery is so remote it was once only accessible by sea. A vibrant herring trade would see casks of silver fish and golden whisky transported around the world from Caithness Harbour.
This cool North Sea location plays a key role in shaping the beautiful Old Pulteney whiskies, all of which are matured on site to fully benefit from the cool, salty, fresh sea air. The style of whisky here is soft, honeyed, elegant and with a lovely sea-breeze finish, thoroughly enjoyable. Old Pulteney: The Maritime Malt.
