Port Charlotte 18 Aged Years (2025 Release) is a limited Islay single malt is matured and bottled entirely on Islay. It is a committed expression of island provenance and the distillery’s dry peat character.
This release distinguishes itself by patient maturation and a thoughtful cask programme: 53% first-fill bourbon, 31% second-fill sherry and a small parcel that spent 11 years in sherry casks, then time in Virgin French Oak before reconditioning. The 40ppm peat level provides a dry, smoky backbone that sits alongside honeyed fruit, toasted oak and salted caramel. Single-island production and limited quantity make it both collectible and eminently drinkable. All marrying and bottling were carried out on Islay to retain maritime and mineral influence.
Pair with slow-roasted lamb with smoked salt, oak-smoked brisket, or smoked salmon. Vegetarian matches include charred root vegetables with miso-butter or a mature hard cheese with honeycomb to contrast the whisky’s sweet-smoke balance.
Golden syrup in the glass. The nose shows figs, sultanas and sweet smoke with caramel and mellow oak. Palate is smooth and rich with dark brown sugar, apricot jam and heather honey, punctuated by peat smoke and a subtle saline minerality. The finish offers wood spice, smoked leather and a lingering nutty salinity.
